Bizkaiko Txakolina: Freshness in a bottle
Vineyards have existed in Bizkaia for hundreds of years, since the12th century, when people began wine growing for local consumption. The vineyards are cultivated up hillsides protected from the north winds, seeking as much sunshine as possible, on small and difficult to mechanize plots of land. The result is a wine produced with loving care and with a quality that sets it apart.
Bodega Elizalde
Looking at the Urkiola mountains, the vineyards are located at an altitude of over 300 meters above sea level, probably one of the highest plantations in Bizkaia. Our vineyards are planted with the same orientation as the traditional basque house 'baserri" 400 years old. The white txakoli represents more than 95% of the total production, made with the indigenous grape varieties: Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Zuri Zerratia.
